Tatá
Caveira is an exu, that is an entity
that works within Umbanda, through
the embodiment of mediums.

Before being an entity, Tatá Caveira lived on earth as everybody else. We believe he was born in 670 A.D., and lived until December 698 in Egypt, or according to the entity himself "On my sacred land on the shores of the Great River".
His name was Próculo, of Roman origins, imposed in honour of the Chief of the Roman Guard of the time.
Próculo lived in a village, part of a humble and rather poor family. During all his life worked hard to grow and accumulate wealth, specially in the form of goats, camels and land. At that time, to have a woman it was necessary to buy her from her father or tutor, and this was the reason for Próculo to work so hard to obtain financial resources.
Actually Próculo had a very strong passion for a girl that was brought up together with him while he was young, like a friend. However his caution made him accumulate a large fortune, as he did not want to run the risk of the girl's father refusing his wish of marriage to the girl.
Destiny played a bitter trick on Próculo, because his blood brother, aware of Próculo's intentions towards the girl, was the key piece of a very cruel betrayal. Just when Próculo managed to purchase more than half of the village where they lived, thus being sure of nobody offering anymore for the girl, was stabbed from the back by his own bother who had bought the girl hours before. As a matter of fact the girl had been bought the night before the morning when Próculo intended to make his request.
Abreast of the facts Próculo was badly offended by his brother, however he respected him for being his same blood. His brother although older was very envious and did not posses even half of the richness that Próculo had made.
Próculo's village was rich and prosperous, this attracted much envy from nearby villages. One day, a nearby village, larger in number of people, yet less rich, and for having been pushed back from the Nile River, began to draw their attention to Próculo's village.
A war began. Próculo's village was suddenly invaded and taking aback all its inhabitants. Being in smaller number they were all killed apart from 49 people.
These 49 revolted survivors united and though of revenge, invading the opposing village were women and children where. A lot of people died as a consequence of this rage and hate action. On the other hand because of the small number they were soon found and captured.
Próculo, as well as his companions were burnt alive. Nonetheless the greatest pain that Próculo felt "was not caused by the fire but by the heart", because of the betrayal of his own brother, now burning next to him.
This was the origin of the 49 exus of the Caveira Line, composed by all the men and women that that day left the flesh.
Amongst the exus of the Caveira Line there are: Tatá Caveira, João Caveira, Caveirinha, Rosa Caveira, Dr. Caveira (7 Caveiras), Quebra-Osso, amongst many others. For respect reasons it will not be said here which exu of the Caveira Line was, during life Tatá's brother.
As an entity, the Chief of the phalanx,
Tatá Caveira is very misunderstood and has few horses.
Rare are the mediums that embody him once he is notorious
for being fierce and grouchy. Yet several mediums embody exus
from his phalanx.
Tatá is playful but at the same time serious and austere. When speaking he does so firmly and is never in doubt. It has a variable nature being sometimes happy, sometimes nervous, sometimes calm, sometimes in a hurry, that's why many think he is crazy.
Yet Tatá Caveira is extremely loyal and friendly, even a bit jealous. Faithfulness is one of his most important characteristics, that's why Tatá does not forgive betrayal and gives great value to true friendship. It considers the worst of all betrayals the betrayal of a friend.
In many a literature he is criticised and are few the people that have the opportunity to get to know Tatá the Chief of the phalanx very well. The horse takes time to become familiar with this exu because it is under test all the time.
Yet once a friend Tatá Caveira will be a friend for the rest of the life. In this and other evolutions.
